Applewild Celebrates National Farm to School Month
Did you know? October is National Farm to School Month!
Applewild celebrates National Farm to School Month by looking at issues of sustainability, nutrition, food education and issues around feeding the world and hunger in our own community. These topics are interwoven into Applewild's curriculum everyday. In October, we celebrate healthy food choices and the harvest from our own teaching-garden. Students harvest herbs, squash, tomatoes, and more, to be used in our own school kitchen. Our youngest learners have field trips to learn about farming and producing food on a larger scale by learning about apples, apple cider, and local farms!
What does all this mean for our students and their futures? Recent studies have shown students who garden as children eat more fruits and vegetables in college!
