Admission Procedure

Applying to Applewild

The Admission Committee endeavors to enroll students who have demonstrated academic achievement, possess a positive attitude toward schooling, and whose parents seek a well-rounded, rigorous liberal arts education for their child. We look for candidates who will benefit from Applewild’s educational programs and who will contribute positively to the school community. The number of openings for a given grade is determined by the re-enrollment of current Applewild students. Admission decisions, during the regular enrollment process, will be mailed during the second week of March. However, any additional vacancies will continue to be filled on a rolling basis after March 10.

Visiting Applewild

We encourage families to visit our campus as a first step in the important process of learning about our school. Touring our classrooms, speaking with our students and faculty, and observing our family dining-style lunches allow visitors to experience Applewild's community-minded, cooperative environment. Please call the Admission Office at 978-342-6053, ext. 110, to schedule a meeting and a campus tour with our director of Admission. During your visit, you will learn more about Applewild as we, in turn, are excited to learn more about you. Click here to fill out an online inquiry form.

Application Process

Families applying for admission must submit a completed application (application, required recommendation forms, and records) and an application fee of $50 for US students and $100 for international students by February 1st. In addition, families applying for admission to grades 5 through 8 must register for their admission screening (ISEE test www.iseetest.org) through the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). Please refer to the section on admission testing for more information. Upon receipt of your application, if you choose to have us mail you the forms, you will receive a packet containing an academic records release card and teacher recommendation forms to be distributed at your child’s current school. You may also download forms online. Click here to download admission forms.

Admission Screening and Testing

The admission office will contact candidates for screening.

Grades K through 4: Screenings will be held Saturday, January 21st beginning at 9:00am. During the screening, small groups of Kindergarten candidates will spend about an hour in the Kindergarten area with the appropriate faculty. Candidates for grades 1 through 3 will meet individually with a faculty member for about one to two hours. Candidates for grade 4 will spend between two and three hours completing an in-house entrance exam, and meeting with faculty. This may be combined with a day-long student visit.

Grades 5-8: Students who have submitted applications for grades 5 through 8 must register for the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) at www.iseetest.org. Tests are administered at Applewild School or other ISEE test sites. All students in grades 5-8 must complete the ISEE. Test dates are scheduled for Saturday, December 10 and January 21st.

Student Visit

All candidates for grades 4-8 are invited to spend a day attending classes with an Applewild student host. After we receive your admission application, we will contact you to arrange your child's day visit.  Although students applying for grades K-3 are not required to spend a day at Applewild, we would be happy to arrange a visit for them.

Applewild School is a private elementary/middle school located in Fitchburg, MA serving students in central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire grades Kindergarten through grade 8.
