Alumni Panel

Alumni Panet a Hit!

Our Board of Visitors guests and upper schoolers enjoyed listening to panelists Jeff Wolf, '75, Eric Shapiro '76, and Ben Urquhart '92 talk about their careers, the rapid pace of change, and in particular how change impacts the field of renewable energy. They predict that solar will grow significantly in the US by 2015. One guest asked the panel to reflect on how Applewild had helped prepare them for their futures. Panelists all highlighted the emphasis on a broad and rich curriculum, particularly mentioned science and the arts throughout the grades. Ben noted that the United States has a science deficit and how critical it is for us to be knowledgeable citizens. Jeff emphasized the value of their experiences with public speaking and performance skills, of how well prepared they were for the demands of secondary school and beyond, Eric mentioned the value of how learning to accept challenges and be persistent, and of how they were encouraged to understand different cultures and perspectives. Perhaps most important to them all was that they felt they were encouraged to find their passion and were imbued with the self-confidence to be effective, productive lifelong learners.
