Learning Specialist Job Description
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Special Education or related field
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years classroom experience
- Certification/Training in research based reading and math programs
- Experience in administering and interpreting educational assessments
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Interest in developing a program
Responsibilities:
Liaison with administrators, teachers, students, and parents
- Provide input into student learning styles and needs
- Synthesize evaluation of student’s educational needs and recommend appropriate accommodations
- for the learner who may need support/strategies
- for the learner ready to accelerate
- In collaboration with Division Heads:
1)Strategize and assist classroom teacher in meeting identified needs
2)Communicate with families
3)Implement plan, including for follow up as needed
4) Play the lead advisory role if so identified by the plan
- Teach a small group in reading in either grade one, two, or three.
- Have the capacity to teach a small group in math, grade 1 – 5
Provide a resource for Professional Development
- Attend faculty team/grade level meetings as requested
- Act as resource for information about acceleration and support
- Provide individual “just in time” professional development as requested
Assessment
- Interpret outside educational assessments for faculty and administration and parents
- Work with the Director of Admissions to review files and attend meetings as needed
