Orientation Program
These programs take place during the first two weeks of school and are designed to create a strong
community and prepare Upper School students for the year ahead. The 6th Grade trip is a carefully planned outdoor adventure program at the Chewonki Foundation in Wiscasset, Maine. Trips for older students include 7th graders hiking with the Appalachian Mountain Club in New Hampshire, an ecology trip to Nature's Classroom, and the 9th Grade trip to New York or Washington, D.C.
Foreign Travel Program
Upper School students enjoy the opportunity to expand their language skills by traveling to the countries where their chosen foreign language is spoken. Participating in an exchange, students from Applewild travel to France in the summer and in alternates, over a dozen students from the Immaculée Conception School in Angers, France, spend two weeks living with Applewild families. Their time here is divided between traveling around New England and participating in classes at Applewild. In turn, our Upper School students have the opportunity to travel in France in the alternate summer and to do a home stay with an Immaculée Conception family. We also lead trips to England and to Spain.

Mentor Options
Starting in the 7th grade, students are offered the opportunity to work extensively with a teacher in an area where an expressed interest or talent has been shown. By opting out of a season of sports, a student may be chosen to work in the art or furniture making mentor programs or the winter play.
Ski Program
For six Fridays in January and February, buses transport interested students in Grades 4 through 9 to Mt. Wachusett for an afternoon of skiing. Parents often join their children at the mountain.
The Extended Day Program
Applewild offers an afternoon program that continues beyond regular classroom hours. Children enrolled in Extended Day enjoy a more relaxed pace adjusted for the developmental needs of young children who have already had a busy day of school. Activities include play time; learning opportunities in art, woodworking and dramatics; and teacher-directed projects. Our older students have a focused study hall to get a jump on their evening’s academic assignments.
Applewild Parent Association
The purpose of the Parent Association is to serve as a forum for communication and cooperation among the members of the school community and to provide services to enhance the academic, cultural, and extra-curricular life of Applewild School. By being a parent or guardian of an Applewild student, a parent automatically becomes a member of the Applewild Parent Association.
Family Events
Throughout the year, there are many on-campus events that encourage family and school ties. The Harvest Fair, Rummage Sale, Grandparent and Special Persons Day, Holiday and Spring Concerts, Theatrical Performances, and guest lectures allow us to be together as parents, students, and school.
