Well, we heated up the dance floor on March 28th with an Upper School Dance with a March Madness theme- meaning anything March like- basketball, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, the Ides of March….. the kids had a great time! One of the highlights was hearing a few songs from our homegrown band The Top Hats featuring Chris Stimpson, Blake Henderson, Nathan Jacques and Alex Cummings. They sounded awesome! We look forward to our movie night on April 18th from 4-6:30PM and our Wiffle Ball Tournament on May 16th from 4-8:00PM, both which will include our whole US student body.
The Lessons of Forgiveness:
I was so struck by the reception Bill Buckner received at Fenway Park during Tuesday’s home opener. I spoke to the Upper School students about pointing out that “we” can be brutal when people make mistakes, as “we” certainly have been to Bill Buckner over the years. I noted that the mistakes could be big or small, yet people’s venom can have a very long memory. Too often that’s how it is.
Rarely do we see a stadium of tens of thousands of people make a gesture of forgiveness the way Fenway Park did Tuesday. I wanted to press the lesson into our students’ minds. I told them that kind of communal statement of good and forgiveness is the way our world could and should be.
Don’t forget:
On Tuesday, April 15 at 7:00pm in the Laverack Room we will host our annual evening to present our ninth grade program. The evening is meant to inform families in 7 and 8th grades about our ninth grade year in preparation for their thinking about next steps for their student.
Movie Night Friday, April 18.
Our 9th graders travel to Boston City Lab on Wednesday, April 23.
National Poetry Month
We have been having students and faculty share poetry each day during announcements. We have heard a wonderful variety of poems to date including many originals from current and former students. Keep thinking in verse as the month goes by!
