Our Adventure Day Camp incorporates Junior Camp, a program for campers entering Kindergarten or
first grade, and Senior Camp, for campers entering grades 2 through 8 in September 2010.
Junior Camp is situated in its own area on Applewild's campus and has its own play areas and equipment, while still sharing many of the campus facilities. For our youngest campers, we put together a fun schedule that includes many creative, stimulating activities to serve as an introduction to the camp day. Junior Campers enjoy instructional swimming classes, water games, nature walks, drama, dance, music, arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, story time, and free play.
Senior Camp allows children entering grades 2-8 to enjoy the structure of a traditional day camp with opportunities available only at Applewild! Each Senior Camper choose three multi-age activities to complete his or her individual schedule, which also includes an all-camp Morning Meeting, two recesses, a lunch block, and a choice time that includes options like free swim. But that’s not all: each day at camp also includes a group activity. This activity might involve the entire camp for a huge game of Four-Way Capture the Flag or a campus-wide scavenger hunt, or it might be limited to the camper’s age group for a trip to the frog pond or a special craft activity. Every day is different!
Counselor-in-Training Program
This program is for young adults (entering grades 8, 9 or 10 in September) ready to take the first step toward becoming trained camp counselors. CITs will have the opportunity to explore the different areas of camp, from the pool to arts and crafts to the archery range. CITs will learn about leading and managing groups of children as they shadow an experienced counselor, take part in planning and running activities, and gain in-depth, on-the-job experience and training, including workshops on first aid, CPR, and job skills. Those hoping to excel in this program need to be enthusiastic and ready to take on a leadership position!
