Exciting Announcement!

26 Oct

Dear Applewild families,

This is an exciting time at Applewild School. As we approach our historic 60th year, we have much to celebrate. As envisioned by our founders, the C.T. Crocker family, Applewild is “a school full of voices, of happiness, of music.”  We provide an unparalleled foundation that prepares students to seize the opportunities and navigate the challenges that will undoubtedly be a part of their educational and life journeys.   And it is more than that—Applewild is about being a part of a community, of something larger than any one individual. We believe that being accountable for contributing to the good of a community strengthens both the individual and the community, and is foundational to a happy and fulfilling life.

This milestone in our history is a time to reflect on our storied past and is also a wonderful opportunity to look ahead to ensure we will be just as strong in our next 60 years.

In that spirit, I’m thrilled to announce two bold new initiatives that are the result of a process of self-reflection and dialogue within our community, as well as forward-thinking leadership on the part of our Trustees. The first is a new logo, tagline, and marketing language, all of which serve to communicate who we are, celebrate our identity, and share our strengths with prospective families and community partners. We’ve articulated Applewild’s foundation of strength with these powerful words:

Formative. Applewild nurtures the mind and character, fostering the development of skills and values that prepare students for future educational success and purposeful lives as engaged citizens.

Individualized. Within Applewild’s inclusive, student-centered community of learners, each individual’s unique strengths and potential are known, cherished, and cultivated.

Innovative. Rooted in the tradition of a liberal arts education, Applewild engages students in active, collaborative, and service learning experiences that reflect the best practices in teaching and learning today.

I am eager for you to learn more – please click here for information about our new logo and messaging.

Our second bold, innovative initiative is our new tuition model called Access Applewild, which we are introducing as we enter the 2017-2018 school year. Access Applewild is a responsive and responsible approach to tuition that reflects our deeply held beliefs about who we are as an institution and how we can better serve the families who share our vision that education is an investment with far-reaching dividends for individual children, their families, and our community and world.

Through Access Applewild, tuition for each family will fall within a tuition range that is based on the student’s grade level and the family’s unique financial circumstances.  A detailed explanation of the program is here, including information about the transition process from our current program to Access Applewild. Please note that based on our research and modeling, current families can expect their tuition will remain consistent.

I am delighted to share that in addition to implementing this new program, the Board of Trustees has unanimously committed to a zero percent increase in the full tuition at each grade level for the next two school years. “Recognizing that an Applewild education is an investment, we looked for an innovative approach to making tuition affordable,” stated William Aubuchon, ‘92, President of the Applewild Board of Trustees. “Access Applewild, and our decision to freeze tuition for two years, reflects our understanding of the importance of an Applewild education and our commitment to making it accessible to those students and families who feel the same.”

As we look to the future, we know that the strong foundation upon which Applewild was built will endure and serve future generations of Applewild families. The same seeds of curiosity, civic mindedness, integrity, and motivation that were planted 60 years ago continue to bloom today at Applewild, inspiring current and future students to be curious, confident learners that not only can, but will make a difference in the world.

Warmest regards,
Christie Stover
Head of School

Introducing Access Applewild:  Tuition within Reach

We believe that an Applewild education should not be out of reach for anyone. That’s why we created Access Applewild. It is a bold and innovative tuition program that reflects our deeply held beliefs about who we are as an institution and how we can better serve the families who share our vision. We believe that education is an investment with far-reaching dividends for children, their families, our community, and our world, and we want to ensure that families who are seeking outstanding educational opportunities can access our School. Beneficial to current and prospective families, this new program reinforces Applewild’s role as a leader in independent school best practices.

A Personalized Process for Applewild Families

Through Access Applewild’s personalized qualification process, families will be asked to pay a tuition level that is most appropriate to their unique circumstances. It’s a way of focusing on the contribution every family makes toward tuition and of recognizing that all families stretch to afford an Applewild education. There are three main parts to the qualification process for families choosing to be considered for Access Applewild. First, families will provide their individual financial profile to the confidential, objective third-party organization called Schools and Student Services. Second, families will supply complementary information that goes beyond the standard number crunching, thus providing them with an opportunity to share more about their specific circumstances. Third, and consistent with our School’s focus on communication and partnership, families are encouraged to meet personally with the Director of Admission to discuss circumstances that impact their family’s financial profile. When the process is complete, families will receive a re-enrollment contract that specifies their tuition.

A Partnership

We understand that an Applewild education is an investment and a serious financial decision for each family. We know that our families are making significant sacrifices in order to secure the lasting dividends of an Applewild education. We appreciate that families are stretching and, in partnership with them, we want to stretch too by offering a tuition that is responsive and responsible. For those families who may be unable to afford our School’s highest level of tuition, we are happy to discuss how the Access Applewild program may work for them. Most importantly, based on our research and modeling, the tuition families currently pay will not be adversely impacted by the Access Applewild program.

Tuition Categories and Ranges

Tuition for each family will vary based on the family’s category (that is, the grade level of the student) and on the family’s financial circumstances. Families can expect their tuition to fall within the ranges specified below.

Category I              K                     $3,950 – $19,645

Category II            Gr. 1 – 3          $4,550 – $22,750

Category III          Gr. 4 – 5          $5,150 – $25,620

Category IV           Gr. 6-8           $5,550 – $27,685

In keeping with our mission and values as a School, and as further demonstration of our commitment to make an Applewild education accessible to as many qualified students as possible, the Board of Trustees has enthusiastically committed to a zero percent tuition increase at the top end of each tuition category for the next two school years.  By freezing the top end of the tuition and adopting Access Applewild, we are affirming our commitment to current and future Applewild families.

Why Change Our Tuition Model? Because We Know Who We Are

Applewild is Formative. At Applewild we shape the mind and character of children who will become tomorrow’s engaged citizens. With Access Applewild, we have the opportunity to broaden the benefits of an Applewild education to more families, which, in turn, positively affects both our school and the greater community.

Applewild is Individualized. Applewild is not a one-size-fits-all place. Everyone is an individual whose different qualities and unique strengths contribute to the vibrancy of our community. Our admissions process has always been centered on getting to know families well and connecting with them in a personal way. In that same spirit, Access Applewild ensures that our tuition model reflects our deep commitment to a caring, individualized experience for both returning and new families.

Applewild is Innovative. We know more today about cognition and the different ways children learn than we did 20 or 30 years ago—and we teach differently because of it. Similarly, Access Applewild presents an opportunity to improve upon conventional tuition models of the past. We seek to be a leader in the field by changing the way we work with families and putting an Applewild education within reach of families who may not previously have considered it.

Applewild believes diversity of all kinds, including economic diversity, enriches the educational opportunity for all students and creates a healthy school and environment for learning.  We are committed to making our formative, individualized, and innovative education possible for bright, talented students from all economic backgrounds.

New Look, New Language: An Exciting Time for Applewild!

With the approach of our 60th anniversary and the reflective nature of our work towards AISNE reaccreditation, we have had an incredible opportunity to think deeply about the past, present and future of our remarkable school. We’ve considered not only the enduring characteristics of an Applewild education, but also how we can best convey to the broader community what makes Applewild so special.

After several months of self-reflection, discussion, and consultation with marketing experts who listened closely to our parents and members of our community, Applewild is pleased to introduce a new look and new marketing language that embody who we are and what makes us unique. This new visual and verbal messaging is a way to celebrate and communicate our identity and to share our strengths with prospective families and community partners. The fresh graphic presentation and language we’ve developed give us the tools we need to go boldly into Applewild’s next 60 years.

Applewild’s Foundation of Strength: Formative. Individualized. Innovative.

In our branding, we’ve focused on the strengths of the school that, going forward, will continue to position our students to succeed. These strengths are the pillars that uphold the work that we do, and we have expressed them in concise, positive words that capture both who we are essentially in our “soul” and also our continuing commitment to be a school that is relevant, forward-thinking, and meeting the needs of students in the decades to come. These pillars—formative, individualized, and innovative—are reflective of our Core Values and Core Competencies. You will soon see them on our website and in printed materials about the school, but you can see them in action every day in our classrooms and curricula!

The Logo and Tagline

Our updated logo includes a clean, bold, and modern font that expresses our optimism for the future. The graphic element of the leaves conveys the sense of growing, which is so important to capture as a part of the Applewild experience. The three-word tagline, which connects symmetrically with the three leaves, provides powerful descriptors that evoke the pillars and a sense of upward growth. Though it will not be central to our marketing, our beloved tree icon and “A Belief in the Future” motto will stay with us as our official seal on diplomas and our most official documents, and will be used by our Alumni Office, which serves to bridge Applewild’s past, present, and future. We are excited about our new look and messaging, which powerfully showcase the best of Applewild!
