Spiral Curriculum – Heritage Festival 2016

Heritage Festival 2016: An example of a Spiral Curriculum

The 4th Grade Heritage Festival is a highlight of the year and is an example of the spiral curriculum at Applewild. At Applewild, our curriculum spirals, in other words, we introduce key concepts to students in the lower grades and cover the same concepts repeatedly, with increasing complexity. We do this with presentation and public speaking skills. Students begin to learn to research and to present their findings beginning in 1st Grade with the Animal Project. By the 4th Grade, students research a country from their heritage and present their findings, including a favorite recipe! Members of our community gather to enjoy learning from one another as they share their research.spiral curriculum Example at Applewild School

These experiences culminate in 8th grade with the Eleanor Crow Public Speaking Contest, History Day projects and participation, Hands Across Time, and graduation speeches.
