Thomas Tessier  ‘03

Education:
New Hampton School
B.A. History, Education, Colby College, Cum Laude
M.Ed. Higher Education, Harvard University

Current Work:

Since graduating from Colby College, Tom has spent the last five years working in education. Starting his career as a teacher at a boarding school in Santa Barbara, Tom taught AP U.S. History, served as a dorm parent, and coacTom Tessier 1hed cross country and lacrosse. Tom left teaching to pursue his Masters in Education from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education and began his career in Admissions. Starting at Wellesley College and currently working at Stanford University, Tom has spent the last three years in Admissions. He is currently the Assistant Director of Admissions at Stanford’s Online High School.

“Both my time at Applewild and at my alma mater of New Hampton School led me to my career in education. I was fortunate to have many great teachers.  Their hard work and dedication inspired me to pursue a career in education,” he said.

Applewild Memories:

Tom recalls, “I have vivid memories of classroom discussions and current events with Mr. Jones in eighth grade History. There was never a dull moment in class as he always encouraged us to share our own thoughts on what was happening in the world.”    He also enjoyed having Mrs. Zavorski in the fourth grade and Mrs. Hager for seventh grade English class.

He fondly remembers sledding in the back of the old Lower School, Immigration Day in the fourth grade, and the Green and White competitions at Field Day at Monty Tech.

Applewild Impact:
Tom notes, “My time at Applewild provided me with the best academic foundation for high school and college. I would certainly not been able to thrive in the way I did without having had the rigorous preparation of an Applewild education.”

“Recently, my Applewild world came full circle in my current position.  I had the pleasure of interviewing and accepting an Applewild eighth grade applicant to Stanford’s Online High School.  This experience helped me remember my own student life and I enjoyed learning about the many new and innovative curricular offerings at Applewild.  I am very confident in the great academic preparedness of Applewild students,” he said.

Tom is currently living in San Francisco. When Tom is not at Stanford, he is usually out for a run, hike, or workout. In the colder months, he can likely be found on the slopes, pursuing his love of skiing.
