February Building Community

Building Community:  Admissions, Development & Marketing

In Chris Williamson’s January HEADlines, he discussed Competing Against Luck (2016), by Clayton Christensen et. al. The premise of the book is that innovation happens when an organization figures out what “job” it is that the “customer” is trying to accomplish – what is the job that the customer is “hiring”?  In response to Christensen’s book, a parent survey was developed to help us understand why your family decided to enroll your child(ren) at Applewild.  We have heard from many families and there is still time to have your input included.  If you haven’t taken the survey, please click here to participate on or before Monday, February 18th.

Chris will be sharing the outcome of the survey with all parents once we digest the input.  Early reports positively affirm the work we do each day educating your children.  Many families value the individualized attention given to each student, the strong commitment to character development and emphasis on Core Values, the challenging academic program that allows for collaboration and hands-on learning, the foreign language options, and the robust arts curriculum featuring instrumental and choral music, drama and shop.  Families also took an opportunity to offer suggestions on how we can continue to improve the overall experience for parents and students alike.

Reenrollment Contracts – February 21st

A friendly reminder that reenrollment contracts for your children for the 2019-20 school year will be emailed on February 21.   This process should take approximately 15 minutes to finish and you’ll have until Friday, March 8 to complete and submit your reenrollment packet.   If you need assistance or have questions, please contact Jen Raterman at extension 111 or email her at jraterman@applewild.org.

Admissions Events

Thank you for continuing to help spread the word about our admissions events.  I’m pleased to report that our winter Open House on January 26th was a great success.  We had 20 prospective families attend.   A special thank you to our Jazz Band for providing an outstanding musical presentation for our guests.  Thanks also to our parent volunteers and student ambassadors for providing informative tours and generating meaningful conversations with visitors at lunch.

Our Devens Campus Open House on February 7th attracted 12 prospective families interested in preschool through 1st grade.

Tour & Explore – February 21st at 9am in the Laverack Room

If you have friends in the public schools in Massachusetts, this Tour & Explore may be a convenient time for them to visit with their children during public school vacation week.

This is an informal way for prospective families to tour the school, see our engaged students and teachers in action, and discover what it means to be part of our Applewild community.

Golf Tournament 2019

Our annual Golf Tournament at Red Tail Golf Club will take place on Friday, May 17th. If you would like to join the fun and be a committee member, please attend our next meeting on Wednesday, February 20 at 8am in the Laverack Room at the Crocker Building.

We are seeking sponsors, golfers, and donations for the basket raffle and silent auction.  We are also looking for volunteers the day of the event.    More information can be found online at:  applewild.org/golf/

This fundraiser is a wonderful opportunity for us to engage businesses and showcase their logos (clickable to their websites) as a thank you for their patronage.  If you’d like more information about the golf tournament or ways you can help, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Warm regards,
